The 10,000 square meter underground city of Kariz is more than 2500 years old and is a great proof of ancient engineering skills. It consists of tunnels which are several kilometers long which let water easily drain out to flatter agricultural lands. This is a remarkable city which as all travelers agree is worthy of attention and admiration.
Seasonal rainfall in Kish Island make the canals full of water and supplies the freshwater for the inhabitants. The water is kept in the wells of this underground city and is preserved by the clean clay that surround the walls of this complex. The coral ceiling of the underground city is covered with ancient fossils and along with other beauties, made the complex to be listed among other important structures in the world.
